"Zootopia" is a reverse biased utopian story. Judy who is in the army looks like a puny rabbit of her police officers. One called the "lightning" sloth, but the clerk who is slower than the turtle, and looks very small and exquisite mole is an imposing gangster. Contrast is appeared in this film everywhere, not only challenges the audience's awareness. More skillfully to create a laugh. Finally, the biggest contrast to the true identity of the behind the scenes. When we subconsciously believe that the face of brutal, violent character of the animal will be born bad guys endorsement, but it not. The film's reverse with the story tells and reminds us: the strong and the weak, the good and evil is not necessarily between the links. Even as a weak. With the greatest malicious to speculate on the relative strength of those who are wrong, it is not justified.

From the beginning to the end, the film has always wanted to convey the "courage to try" the spirit, "Anyone could be anything in Zootopia", everyone should try to do, then you have endless possibilities to become you want to be yourself. For most of the adult audience, such a spiritual core is like a chicken soup for the soul. Just a "try" the subject, cannot allow so many viewers to resonate. The ingenuity lies in the fact that this film reflects too many real-world phenomena, stereotypes, prejudices, discrimination, gender, bipartisan politics, race and class, collective behavior, transgression, and labeling theory. Of the adult fairy tale, it contains too many metaphors, but was packaged in an exquisite "try" candy, the children can taste the "try" the spirit of food at the same time, was virtually wedged into a new idea - a concept that they may not yet be able to generalize, express and internalize - how the society is, and how should we look at it?

Edward Rus Image Analysis

The image I chose to analyze for this assignment is the album art for The Dear Hunter’s album, Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise. The first thing I wish to draw attention to is the figure in the middle. This character is known as the Pimp and the Priest throughout the story told by the band, yet this is the first time people get a glimpse at what he looks like. On the surface level, the reason he is dressed like a plague doctor, besides to hide his identity while in his criminal proceedings, is because the idea that sin is a sickness, and that he, as the doctor of faith, otherwise known as a priest, can help cure it. The deeper level of this has much to do with the fact that through his dealings, and manipulations of religious institutions, and abuse of his own political power, he causes much of the sin that happens. This deeper level analysis shows that he dresses as a plague doctor not because he seeks to cure spiritual disease, but rather because he profits off of it, and as the imagery of these types of doctors makes you think, causes it. The other thing to be analyzed in this album art is the fact that due to the perspective of the picture, the protagonist must circumvent or pass the pimp and the priest to reach the “shining city” at the end of the path. This can both be viewed as a literal obstacle, in that the P&P is simply blocking the characters advancement, or it could also be viewed on that aforementioned, deeper level as the prevention of the characters internal development as a result of the P&P’s involvement. The main character can’t get past the dark forest of his own mind due to the damage caused by this figure, and therefore cannot reach the metaphorical mental state of being in the shining city.

Blog Post #3

For this weeks blog post, I chose to analyze a picture that perfectly represents the current scope of American politics. The picture depicts a large group of sheep choosing to cast their votes for either a wolf or a lion, both of which would happily devour the sheep.

The picture also seemingly attacks the current state of American democracy; a system in which two choices are given to the people and many other candidates are not given national attention. While Gary Johnson has received a small amount of media attention, most of it has been focused on his "Aleppo" and "name a foreign leader you admire" gaffes. While these are pretty inexcusable, they pale in comparison to some of the lies and outrageous policy positions of the two major party candidates. Whereas Gary has received an amount of media attention, other candidates such as Jill Stein and Evan McMullin have received little to none. That's one of the main points of the picture, the public is seemingly only given two choices, but others do exist who may be more beneficial to democracy than the given
candidates.

The American populace is also represented as sheep in the picture; This points to the fact that American's have a low political efficacy and are followers of the media and those who seek to influence. I can hop on Facebook and see one hundred articles that people have shared from BuzzFeed or Fox News, but ill probably never see something shared from The Cato Institute or The Tax Foundation. This can be attested to how most Americans, at least people I know, base their political opinions off of what others tell them or what they see on tv. It has been hard for me to find many people who form their own opinions can back up by peer-reviewed sources, with time to prepare of course.

The pictures choice to display the two candidates as predators also speaks volumes. The sheep are unwittingly voting for their demise, whether it be through the policies of the lion or the wolf. The arguing sheep can argue back and forth which candidate is worse, but both will arguable hurt them all in different ways.

The image I chose was a sketch I did, my version of a drawing I'd seen a few years back and have been unable to find online since. The image is of someone, presumable a lady's side portrait, there's a series of swirls seemingly spawning from her mouth and connected by lines that lead to a larger group of swirls around what should be her hair. In the midst of these swirls in her head, there's a distinctly dark orb. The picture reflects several concepts connected to the idea of thoughts and speech or maintaining a balance between internal and external factors that shape who we are as people- in that sense, the swirls coming out of her mouth represent speech while those in her head represent her thoughts and ideas. The orb represents a core aspect of our thinking process, it can be considered the "brain" in the picture, responsible for producing the thoughts and ideas that the lady lets out into the world. In another sense, it can be said that the swirls around her mouth represent external concepts she's letting into her mind, and the distance of the dark orb shows how she's ignoring her own sense on intuition and opinion to what the world has to offer. This ties into why I believe its more accurate for the subject of the image to be a woman, because I believe women are more scrutinized by social objectives that force them to conform, not just by men but by other women, this in many ways stops them from realizing their true prospects as they struggle to conform to societies expectations and standards for beauty, personality traits and social positions- all of which are systematically imposed on them. However I should note that I don't believe women are the only ones who go through this, men in many ways struggle with conforming to social standards that define how we must compose ourselves, what we can and cant say due to fear of being emasculated by other men, in the process ignoring our sense of individuality.

Van Gogh's Starry Night

Van Gogh is good at using color contrasting, and the distortion of the shape and line to show the world from his eyes. His paintings give those who appreciate the beauty of art not only enjoyment but also exclamation. These paintings grant people a precious opportunity to see another way of beauty, or think about the opposite side of behind beauty. One of his famous painting called the “Starry Night” will be presented in my article.
The Starry Night was painted in June in 1889, and it vividly portrays night skies spreads of stars.
Also in the painting we can observe that dark blue sky is clearly outlined by thick lines. On the left side of his painting, the robust plant seems to echo the darkness of the sky. The bright moon embedded in the night sky sprays her holy lights on the top of those mountains. The tremendous cypress looks like a burning fire, and the nebula seems to be a tornado in the sky, which symbolize the struggling in his real life. From a panoramic perspective, Van Gogh applies light yellow and dark blue as the main tone of his painting. This legendary painting greets me with the feeling of tranquility staying away from boisterous urban life. The painting really give me a peace in the deep of my heart.

His art works were unacceptable in that time; however, his art works influenced the western’s art circles in 20th century. Fauvism and abstract expression are inspired from Van Gogh’s paintings. In the process of his creative painting, the freedom of expressing inner feelings, the relative independence value, and extraction of oriental paintings, inspired the formation of their different painting genres.

Image result for deep meaning pictures

This picture is a representation of society. The pencil, someone with a point to get across, is surrounded by pointless people, erasers. These people are not there to help the pencils see their dreams come to fruition. The erasers would rather destroy any idea that is different from the normal thought process that everyone else has. To me this picture describes school 100% accurately. We are push through the school system and are taught to be basic which nulls our brain. School doesn’t promote strong minded individuals to grow with creativity and their imagination. It instead compromises the confidence of those extraordinary individuals by forcing them to hide their creativity and promise. After their confidence is compromised they are bullied into taking menial jobs to survive. The construct of American society is extremely flowed. Why don’t we get taught about our personality type? Why don’t we get taught to maximize our potential by using our personality at work? Why aren’t we taught to be different? The school system has worked the exact same way from when it was created which is terrible. A society that refuses to adapt, chooses to die. So we need to evolve as a country and teach the pencils how the differences they have can be great instead of destroying their ideas. We also need to teach the erasers to accept the pencils and help them to succeed in life.

                                   "Migrant Mother"

The photograph known as "Migrant Mother" has become an icon of the Great Depression. This photo, taken by Dorothea Lange in Nipomo, California, features a mother and her three children. The photos were taken at the end of Lange's month long photography trip which highlighted farm work labor. Her work was part of the administration's larger effort to document economic and social distress among the nation's agricultural workers and to advertise the agency's relief programs and the measures it was taking to address underlying causes of the dislocation.

In the photo the women seem to be looking off into the distance distressed while her children shyly turn their head from the camera. Captured during the great depression, this photo attempts to display individual worth as well as the effects of the class system.  Class distinction is often overlooked but this photo stood out because it juxtaposed the "family" Americans have tried to portray to its citizens and other countries. The women's face is full of worry and her hand against chin shows her tensions of the wellbeing of her children. The dirty old clothing gives us a sense of her hard work and occupation. Women and her children are considered the most vulnerable so this picture gained a lot of support because many were moved by it. This picture very closely captures the anxiety that people of the depression were faced with.

"Infinite Justice" by Sendy's

+
I wanted to do my visual analysis on some type of graffiti because I love how creative graffiti can be. Therefore, I went on the internet and seen this picture that caught my eye instantly and just knew I wanted to challenge myself with this work. This picture has different ideas into the painting so it can mean different thing. I started breaking this photo down  with first the title of the image. It says infinite justice and I saw the statue of liberty. I came up with the idea that has something to do with freedom. However, I did notice a gun in the statue right hand and the statue it self was set on fire. it had me thinking that those two sign means something went wrong basically. I had to look even deeper for the understanding of the work, so I started looking at the color that this person presented with. Normally, statue of liberty is green and looks full of life. This statue of liberty shows the complete opposite of the original. The colors was very dark colors being use to show that freedom don't exist because it is dead. Especially, when freedom is burning in hot bright colors flames. Consequently, I noticed the picture had words on it, but wasn't in English. I translated these words on google translator and it read out that "Justice in the name of freedom?" I didn't have a clue what none of this means even the book she holding is off because the book of  the original statue of liberty has a book that means July 4, 1776. Nevertheless, that means we declared freedom from Great Britain. Although this statue says something different, I couldn't find the meaning of No Lex In conclusion, this can mean that a country in the world do not thinks there free even if they claimed to be and that demand freedom or they would die trying. Even if it means going to war.

Monopoly is a board game in which players move around  the game-board buying or trading properties, developing their properties with houses and hotels, and collecting rent from their opponents, with the goal being to drive them all into bankruptcy leaving one person left. A monopoly is when  person or company is the only supplier of a particular commodity. There is a lack of competition and competitors.
On the box, the phrase "The most popular board game"is on it. This is a way to show potential buyers how well this game is received. The man on the box is wearing a suit and a top hat. His appearance is supposed to show that he is rich. Him holding a bag of money shows that he has money as well. The goal of this game is to make as much money as you can, so by having a bag of money on the cover lets people know what this game is about. There is a city in the background. It is most likely New York City. One of the things that comes to mind when you think of New York Is Wall Street, so to me it makes sense that this city would be New York. The Sky is blue. It has bright colors on it. Using bright colors attracts children. But this game is not just marketed towards children, because it says family game night on it. This game is meant for people of all ages to play. It also encourages spending time with your family.

This picture was taken in Time Square in 1945 on V-J Day. It features a navy sailor, George Mendonsa, and a girl who he thought was a nurse, Greta Friedman. They call it the “photo that ended World War II.” The purpose of this photograph, that was published in many magazines, could be to show the ways the end of the war was celebrated with something as simple and small as a kiss.

The photograph is primarily focused on the sailor and the kiss with a random stranger. But if you look in the background you see a girl, who was actually on a date with Mendonsa at the moment. She is smiling and she's said before that she wasn’t bothered by the kiss at all, but the nurse was because she wasn’t even a nurse and she didn't know the man that grabbed her.

Mendonsa kissed her because after hearing that the Japanese had surrendered he ran out of the movies with his date, had a couple of drinks, and remembered how he saw nurses help the men that had been hurt at a bombing he witnessed. So he kissed the first nurse he spotted in the middle of Time Square in celebration of the war ending.

Besides the kiss, in the background of this photograph there are many people, all of which are smiling and in possible shock. It could be because of the kiss that was happening in front of them or because everyone in Time Square was celebrating the surrender of the Japanese and the end of the war.

For this week's blog post I wanted to analyze a picture that captures the destruction that was caused very recently by Hurricane Matthew. The picture above was taken in Jeremie, the capital city of Haiti, which was hit by the storm and virtually destroyed, leaving nearly 1300 Haitian people dead or missing, and over 35,000 more homeless in the wake of the tragedy. For some reason, Haiti seems to be a magnet for natural disasters, being hit by 11 hurricanes and tropical storms since 2002 and 1 massive earthquake in 2010. In the picture above, you can see an up close perspective at the damage caused by the storm. While one can see the total damage done to the country from a plane's point of view, this picture has much more shock value to it. Just looking at this man and woman lost for words at the complete disappearance of their home evokes many emotions from the viewer. This picture's purpose is to show the world how much damage has been done, but more importantly to make people feel empathy for the suffering Haitian people. The image does not have to try very hard in accomplishing its goal. Everything about accurately presents an idea of the situation. The dark storm clouds, the fallen trees brought down by raging winds, the pink rubble on the ground which was once a part of these people's home, and the doorway to their home being the only part that remains. I sincerely hope that Haiti receives the aid it needs to rebuild, and that future disasters avoid them.

This art piece caught my attention when i recently went to a local restaurant. I normally wasn't expecting this, but i felt a connection with it. It's like he sees something beyond the sea as if what he has known his entire life is somewhat challenged after experiencing what's in the now. And honestly, i feel that way sometimes too. I understand that the fish symbolizes Christianity. The boy symbolizes innocence. He is aware of the dangers that surround him while he's at sea. I was thinking that the skull head was his protector from the evils of life as well as the sea. The artist is very witty and creates an environment where the young boy is put in a risky situation. Furthermore, the fantasy he enters showcases the three freedom colors of our American flag as balloons. We can tell that the boy if from modern times because he has the earring in his ear and a gold watch on his wrist. I think that contradicts his image as innocent because he is more into the materialistic aspect of life. The boy also becomes the symbol for victims who are products of society's fears. A ghetto black young boy raised to be a thug. If that's not stereotypical then i can't say i know what is. This artist paints a vivid picture of how society looks at blacks. I think that he wanted us to be feared by him, to be suspicious of him, and to mistrust him.

The title of this oil painting is Father. It is a portrait of a typical Chinese farmer. In this painting, there is an old man holding a water bowl in his hand and looking at the front. He has a white scarf tied over his head, the dust and dirt shows clearly on the scarf. There is a pen hide in his scarf above his left ear. His suntanned skin color makes him looks like an Indian. Deep furrow and wrinkles are all over his face. Under the bright sunlight he squints and frowns. The reflection of sweat and oil is glossy. There is a big black mole on the left side of his nose. His lip is dry and cracked, white thin beard is growing at his chin. His mouth opened, we can’t see the teeth clearly. It looks like he doesn’t have too many teeth. He is holding a white bowl and drinking the water- we can’t say it is a white bowl because the dirt had colored it to brown, and some dry leaves are stick to the bowl. The hand that holding the bowl is rough and cracked. His nail is deformed and the dirt was hiding inside. The only bright color in this painting is the golden field background, which makes the painting looks more spacious. The painter Mr. Luo drew this painting with great delicacy. He pays so much attention to the details- audience even can see the small beads of sweat on his face. He uses the simplest colors but shapes this great and diligent farmer. Father symbols the respect and praise of poor Chinese farmer. Mr. Luo depicts the facial expression and “ugly appearance” vividly. It impacts the audience – that’s not only a farmer, that’s also a father! Father not only represents how great farmer is, but also symbolizes the love from human soul.

To begin with, there are farm animals on the right side of the photo, a house cat on the left and a man in the middle. The farm animals include a horse, a cow, a donkey, a pig, a sheep, ducks, chicks, roosters, and a turkey.  The animals aren’t separated by anything physical. A few things to point is how pink and serene the sky looks in the background. The animals don’t look out of the ordinary. There is blood on the farmer’s apron and he is holding a knife. Possibly unintentionally, the farmer points the knife towards the direction of the farm animals. The farm animals are secluded halfway in the barn while the cat is in the more open yard. The animals are in descending order according to their size.

The cat is very sheltered and loved considering the farmer put a bib on the cat as if it were human. He also provides a food bowl for the cat, which seems normal, but consider what the farm animals eat out of. The farmer also shows the cat affection by rubbing its head. The knife pointing towards the farm animals could symbolize their lack of importance to the farmer. The blood on his apron must’ve came from an animal and analyzing the way he treats the cat; it was a farm animal’s blood. Since the farm animals seem to be glaring at the farmer and cat, they appear to be jealous of the affection and special treatment the cat receives. If you take the knife and bloody apron out of this image, the perspective on the farm animals would change. This image introduces some norm where people categorize animals often kept as pets separate from “wild” animals. In reality, both are animals and have similar intentions. The farmer should show more appreciation towards the farm animals since they could be providing labor and food for him. The cat could only provide attention or entertainment.

Why the sad face? Shark species across the globe are currently threatened by a number of problems, including shark fin demand, accidental capture, and illegal fishing. Even though these creatures are apex predators in the sea, humans have become the biggest threat to their existence. In order to keep sharks swimming in our oceans, we are addressing the dangers against them by campaigning for legislative action and educating people of all ages on why they are important to our planet.

Sharks have been caught and utilized for a very long time, but their meat was regarded as low value and the demand were too small to substantially impact the populations. The shark fishing industry underwent several booms in the early 20th century, for example in the 40s and 50s when the demand for shark liver oil exploded. The oil vontaining high amounts of vitamin A was used as a food supplement. Besides the liver oil, their cartilage is marketed as a health supplement and was long believed to help cure cancer. People thought and still think sharks cannot sicken on cancer, A myth which nowadays has been proven wrong with common sighting of sharks with tumors. Furthermore, shark skin can be used to produce leather and teeth as well as jaws have an ornamental value all around the world.
We think that sharks are scary, but they might think in the same way to us.

Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes”

I have hand-picked this image because I can personally relate to it. The image shortly gives the public a view of what it is like to be a young person of color in America.  Unfortunately, many young black men and women have had experiences with higher authority, and lately, the result seems to be the same no matter the dilemma.  Upon looking at this image for the first time, I immediately noticed the fear in the young man’s eyes, his hand gesture, and the police officers in the background.

First, this picture was taken at a peaceful protest in Ferguson, Missouri.  Obviously, the young boy is a black man fearful for his future.  After analyzing the image, I can conclude that he has come to terms with being African American and all of the baggage that comes along with it.  His facial expression signifies his true feelings toward the highest authority: frustration and manipulation.  Although he realizes what it is like, the young man still remains optimistic and hopeful, not just for himself, but for all young men and women of color and that is evident as he is seen praying.  I think this is a perfect representation of our society and how younger generations are maturing and aging into a tough world.

Finally, the police officers in the background are noticeable.  They are pictured wearing body armor in the event that is something is to happen.  Even farther back, police vehicles and their sirens are going off.  Generally speaking, blue and red lights continuously flashing is very intimidating to many people because it seems like somebody will soon be apprehended.  Even though this was a peaceful protest, the police still felt the need to make their presence felt.  In fact, the policemen all look tough and ready for war.  The officer to the left of the young man’s shoulder is holding a baton while glaring at protestors with a threatening facial expression.  This stunning image successfully portrays the fight that many African American’s have to endure with the officers of the law.

Blog Post #3

I have chosen this picture because it comes off as very intriguing and meaningful to me. As I analyzed the picture, I realized that it mocks the creation of the universe. From a religious point of view, the world was created by God; He is known to have created the heavens and the earth. He is the beginning of all things in existence. I think that this picture is a tribute to this idea based on the set up and arrangements the artists included. While analyzing this picture, the first thing I noticed was the young girl playing the flute while dressed in fancy attire. I also noticed that as the young girl plays the flute, she is producing different sceneries such as space, the sea, land, and all that is relatable to each.

At first glance, this picture seems overwhelming but the more I ponder upon the picture I feel a sense of peace. The color scheme of the picture gradually changes from left to right. The picture changes from a darker color scheme in outer space and the ocean to a bright and colorful color scheme on land. Now, human interaction with earth is depicted on both the sea and land. However, the only people that appear are women. The picture containing nothing but women helps give off a sense of peace. Butterflies, which are generally symbols of peace, aid to the idea of peace in the picture. The flowers have castles that appear to be growing from within the flower which signifies the act of development in community. This picture is showing unity with incorporating all aspects of the universe in one picture.

This is Grace, a five years old girl who lives with the neurological disease what is autism, and communication difficulties are part of the characteristics of this disease. Her parents in order to treatment of her disease, they introduced colors and brushes into her life. Just because of this, Grace’s parents discovered her enormous talents.

Look at the above photo, grace uses colors and brushes to paint her inward world. She was concentrating on painting. Whenever her painting, she always wears a smile on her face. I think this is the best thing to express what she thought and she very enjoyed doing this thing. She can good use colors. She understands the way they mix together and interact with one another on paper and it shows in her artwork. The painting is dynamic and vivid, but yet incredibly sweet and brimming with innocence like herself. She like wears colorful clothes when she makes an artwork. It makes her like fuse together with the work. The cat is her favorite friend. It always keeps Grace company when her doing her work. This cat witnesses each piece of work completed. The furniture is all wears the different colors. It seems like Grace’s life become more and more colorful and varied postures.

Los Intocables (Philip Baglio post 3)

"Los Intocables" or translated to English as “The Untouchables” was a controversial photography project that was originally released in mid-2013.  The collaboration between Erik Ravelo and Daniel Ferreira contained a total of seven images that depicted young children being “crucified” on the backs of adults who infringe their rights in different ways. The idea is to represent how children around the world become victim to tragedies like: organ trafficking, radiation, obesity, sexual abuse, war, and school shootings.
A common motif that occurs in all the pictures, is the blurring of the children’s faces which some individuals speculated was to protect the privacy of the young models; however, I see it as a symbol of lost identity these kids face when being exploited. Four of the seven images also display the children in only their underwear representing how they have been stripped bare both physically and mentally This, in turn enhances the idea of their vulnerability and shows a greater resemblance to the crucifixion of Christ. Some of the images also contain props such as: guns, bullets, and a cooler which help further emphasize the issue being addressed. It is also worth noting that these children are crucified on the backs of these adults which embodies the idea that they will later be completely disregarded by their violators. It also gives a criminal aspect to the adults’ portrayal. Ravelo revealed with his publication that the main focus of his project was that “the right to childhood should be untouchable" and his execution is both powerful and heartbreaking.
