Titanic II (Philip Baglio post 1)

We’ve all heard the phrase “History tends to repeat itself”, but how does the meaning of that phrase change when we enable certain events to happen again. Throughout the course of time we as humans have been fascinated with the past. We’ve embarked on journeys to uncover the mysteries of ancient civilizations. We’ve even reenacted crucial wars that have divided us into the nations we are in today, but when does this fascination turn into blind obsession? By 2018, Titanic II is planned to set sail on her maiden voyage. Almost everyone is familiar with the story of the ill-fated ship without enough lifeboats to accompany the amount of passengers that sank after hitting an iceberg over 100 years ago. This tragedy took the lives of over 1,500+ people and changed seafaring laws forever. Titanic II will be constructed to pay homage towards the original doomed liner and her passengers says Clive Palmer, the Australian billionaire behind the build. Palmer and his shipping company, the Blue Star Line, promise to “have every modern amenity along with 21st century technology and the latest navigation systems while still maintaining and overall Edwardian feel”. More importantly there will be enough lifeboats for every passenger on board. It has also been announced that the Titanic II will take the same route as her predecessor, sailing from England to New York (hopefully.) Upon my own research, I discovered that expected value prices for one first class ticket could be anywhere around $1,000,000! This sum of money has been generated by the large fan base that want to guarantee themselves a room. With the 882.5-foot-long ship not even under construction yet, the demand has already skyrocketed. It’s clear to see Titanic II isn’t for the superstitious (or middle class for that matter), but what you think? Would you dare take the voyage of the most infamous ship given the chance?
